Lumbar Instability-Part 3

March 23rd 2011 04:05

feet

A common cause of lumbar instability is muscle weakness. The muscles around the low back and pelvic region because of some reasons become inefficient in holding the bones, joints, and ligaments in place.

Poor posture contributes to muscle strain and weakness. For some tips in correcting posture go to this POST.

Trunk extension exercises while on prone position can also help in strengthening muscles of the back. Abdominal crunches also contribute to the low back's integrity.

A personal observation is that women after giving birth are prone to back pains. The pelvic floor support, due to hormones and the effect of the passage of baby through the birth canal, becomes lax. I have advised a number of women to do pelvic floor exercises. These exercises does not only resolve INCONTINENCE( follow link)) , but also contributes to resolve back pains. True enough, after couple of weeks, these women are painfree.
